We were quite late for our dinner, arriving around 9:20 PM. Most restaurants had stopped accepting new walk-in customers. Fortunately, Ramen Champion was still available. As first-timers, we were impressed by the wave of posters displayed outside the restaurant. Honestly, it worked for us, who were hungry for food. 😅 To keep it simple, we ordered the Tendon (tempura rice bowl) at $17.90 and a simple, light seaweed udon soup at $9.80. Honestly, the prices were high. A very high-standard tempura rice bowl at Raffles City Mall cost less, and a simple udon soup with not many ingredients cost really too high. Fortunately, their food did not disappoint us. Especially the tempura rice bowl; although the two tempura prawns were not that large, they were fresh and delicious. The two pieces of fish were slightly too soft, but acceptable due to their original texture. Overall, the tempura ingredients were very well fried and seasoned, making them flavourful and delicious. The seaweed udon soup was not bad; it simply fed my small-appetite wife. 😅 Overall, the experience was not bad, but with a canteen-like environment and self-service arrangement, the prices should be slightly lower. Otherwise, it will not be my regular Japanese restaurant selection. Nevertheless, it is still recommended for first-timers.

Food was mediocre. I'd rather go to Ajisen for a better dining experience; their standard is good for the price and convenience. You'll have to collect your own food like a QSR. The takowasabi and egg were not fresh, and the noodles were soggy. Perhaps we went there with higher expectations, only to be let down by the food.

I recently tried the tendon set, and it was a delightful meal. It came with chawanmushi, soup, and a canned drink, making it a great value for the variety offered. The rice stood out with its perfectly chewy texture, providing an excellent base for the tempura. The squid was a highlight—soft, tender, and cooked just right. The rest of the tempura was consistently good, with a satisfying crunch and well-balanced flavors. The accompanying chawanmushi was smooth and flavorful, and the soup complemented the meal well. Overall, it’s a satisfying and well-rounded set that I’d definitely recommend!

Food tastes great for a very reasonable price. Do note, the place works effectively as a food court - a physical menu is provided, but you are required to order and pay on your phone using a card. Then, pick it up yourself, on a tray, when your number is called, and return the tray yourself. That's fair enough, though, since there's no service charge.
